PRISMS

PRISMS is the Prescribing Information System for Scotland. It is a web-based application, giving access to prescribing information for all prescriptions dispensed in the community for the past five years. The information is held centrally and the system is updated monthly. The data can be interrogated to provide reports at practice level and aggregate up to Scotland level. More information is available on the PRISMS website at www.prismsweb.scot.nhs.uk.

ISD is working to increase the range of information available to NHSScotland users by providing access to the complete national prescribing dataset, know as the Prescribing Information System (PIS). This will give users information on the Community Health Index (CHI), e-messaging and additional financial items, a far richer dataset than can currently be provided through PRISMS. We expect this development to be of particular interest to prescribing, financial and information analyst users who need to undertake more complex analysis of these data. Each NHSScotland territorial board has nominated relevant staff to be trained in the system. Rollout of PIS began in November 2012 and will continue until the end of February 2013.

To find out more about accessing PIS, please e-mail: nss.isdprescribing@nhs.net.
