Estimated Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) numbers of GPs, 2009
Patterns of GP sessional commitments, 2009
Information on Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) status of GPs is not routinely available. However, estimated WTE numbers for January 2009, and information on patterns of sessional commitments amongst GPs in Scottish practices, are published along with other results from the 2009 National Primary Care Workforce Survey. The survey was not repeated in 2010 so the WTE/sessional commitment figures for 2009 are the most recent that we currently hold.
Longer Term Trends
Longer term trend information on GPs in post in Scottish general practices is published on ISD's main workforce pages.

Up until late 2003, NHS Board-level counts of the numbers of practice staff (including practice nurses) employed by general practices were supplied to ISD by NHS Boards, as part of the data forms ISD(M)8GMS and ISD(M)8PMS. With the introduction of the new GMS contract on 1st April 2004, there were changes to information that practices were required to provide as part of their contracts, with supply of information on practice nurses and other staff no longer mandatory. However, information on practice nurses and healthcare assistants was gathered as part of the National Primary Care Workforce Survey referred to above.
