Careers

The Information Services Division of NHS National Services Scotland is one of the largest employer of information staff in Scotland. We work with clinicians, health and social care practitioners, managers, researchers and others across the public service and beyond to support the delivery of safe and effective health and care services.

Equality and diversity

We are responsive to the principles of equality and diversity in our recruitment and employment practice.

  • We are ‘Disability Confident’, taking action to ensure that people with disabilities and long term health conditions feel supported, engaged and able to fulfil their potential in the workplace. We offer interviews to all candidates who meet the minimum criteria for a role and support flexible working patterns where possible. It also means that we take active steps to make adjustments in the workplace to support staff with disabilities.
  • We believe that staff should receive equal pay for the same or broadly similar work regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, race, religion and sex or sexual orientation.

As our employee you will have access to great learning opportunities. There are also opportunities to move around different work areas in the organisation and different locations. We have offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow; we also have staff working in NHS Boards and local authorities, Scottish Government and with academic partners across the country.

What our staff say

Information Analysts at Information Services Division

"Being an analyst doesn't, as many might imagine, mean that my entire time is spent at the computer screen looking at data (although there is a fair degree of that!) In fact, my current role is within a relatively small multidisciplinary team, and for that reason I'm able to get involved in many other aspects and I'm encouraged to offer any ideas or thoughts I have about the project we're working on. An important element of my role involves going out to NHS Boards and showing them what their information looks like and helping them to enhance their use of measurement to aid improvement, using their own real-time data. I have recently developed my skills using Tableau, which is a visualisation tool that is beginning to transform the way information is presented. Through the use of Tableau I have built indicators for our flagship benchmarking product, which is now available to the wider NHS community. This role doesn't come without its challenges but overcoming these can be very rewarding."

Senior Information Analyst

"I moved into a new team team and was tasked with developing a methodology for identifying which hospitals could reasonably be compared with each other. There were already suggested methodologies but I was given the freedom to forge my own path. I led on getting data from NHS England, not just administratively but also analytically as we mapped variables from one dataset to another. Depending on the projects you get involved in expect far more contact with NHS Boards, other outside organisations and other teams within ISD."
